my following posts will still be revolving around sports.
I will be talking about the inaugural Youth Olympic Games that is going to be held in Singapore!
The Youth Olympic Torch went by my school yesterday, and this is the main reason why I am talking about this today.
Even though it was quite a big deal, the Youth Olympic Torch went by my school quite disappointingly. Firstly, the whole school suspended lessons in the morning for this event. Secondly, everyone was waiting for it along the driveway for a very long time, and we got quite restless quickly. Thirdly, we were expecting something more spectacular than someone holding on to a container with a tiny flame in it, maybe a torch on fire? Yes, I saw the torch, someone else was holding it but it was not lit.
When the torch actually passed us, our spirits were already dampened, and a few cheered only.
I would not blame the torch bearers that they were using a container, as it was probably because of the rain in the morning, (I guess?)
Soon after, five planes flew over our school in formation, bulky but slow enough for us to enjoy it, it was either an old model or just cargo planes.
Everyone cheered it, possibly louder than for the torch.
I didn't realise the significance of it until I heard that three out of five of the airplanes were driven by Hwa Chong students from the Youth Flying Club! Wow!
I've been keeping a lookout for volunteering opportunities, but sadly it was only open to polytechnics, ITE, universities students or adult individuals.
Well, this will be the end of my post today, I will dig up some background informations of the YOG and post some updates on it.
