This year will also be the 19th World Cup
The previous host for Fifa World Cup, in 2006, was Germany.
France was the champion who carries home the golden trophy from Germany that year.
This year, 2010, the Fifa World Cup will be hosted by South Africa., while Brazil will host the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
There was a host selection where South Africa was chosen.
The host of Fifa World Cup is set in Africa, so as to rotate the event among football confederations, namely:
- AFC Asian Football Confederation in Asia
- CAF Confederation Africaine de Football in Africa
- CONCACAF – Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football in North America and Central America
- CONMEBOL – Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol in South America
- OFC – Oceania Football Confederation in Oceania
- UEFA – L'Union Européenne de Football Association in Europe.
Five countries from Africa placed bids to host the Fifa World Cup 2010, and they are the following:
Tunisia withdrew on 8 May 2004 after joint biding is not allowed
Libya was also rejected for bid did not meet list of requirements.
South Africa got 14 votes while Morocco got 10 votes, Egypt got 0 votes.
I will also show you how germany became the host for Fifa World Cup 2006
Four countries, originally 5, but Brazil withdrew in the last minute, placed bids to host the World Cup in 2006, namely:
The host selection of the World Cup 2006 was quite a tough one, as Germany was accused of "bribing" the Fifa representatives led to another two rounds, ending up with Germany maintaining the lead. But as you can see, they favoured South Africa as being host for the World Cup quite substantially, as without them "bribing" they had a struggle with Germany to clinch the hosting rights. That is the reason why they got the hosting position in 2010.
Round 1,
Germany 10, South Africa 6, England 5, Morocco 3
Round 2
Germany 11, South Africa 11, England 2, Morocco -
Round 3
Germany 12, South Africa 11, England -, Morocco -
(Taken from wikipedia)
And as you can see, South Africa and Morocco was quite insistent on being able to host the Fifa World Cup, placing bids in 2006 and 2010. I was not able to retrieve any information on the host selection in 2002.
The policy of rotating football confederations was then abandoned in October 2007
The qualifiers have already started and the countries in the group stage are chosen
There were also many predictions that Brazil or England have a good chance of winning the Cup.
I will update this blog more on the international friendlies before the Cup begins.
