Blog prompt 1:
It's an honour to be able to give this speech, I am a member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals. I will now talk about the cruelty of the fishing industry in Japan. There are a few points why overfishing harms whales.
Why overfishing or whaling poses threats to the whale population?
Mainly, whaling poses a great threat to whales, as fisherman hunt them for whale oil, some countries kill them for scientific purposes.
Secondly, overfishing has heavily depleted many fish stocks around the world and removing food sources can harm the whales that depend on those fish.
Thirdly, whales also can become entangled in fishing nets, and because they are air-breathing mammals, entanglement frequently leads to drowning.
Fourthly, collision between fishing boats and whales also killed a few whales every year.
How We Can Help
As most of the times, I believe, actions speak more than words. We can help by reframing from buying products that are not “whale-friendly”, and encouraging others to do so too. We can also promote the fact that people are harming the whales, and the ways they can do to help, just like what I am doing right now.
